What does it mean for Marina to be proactive?
Marina runs passively in the background and looks for opportunities to be helpful based on what you're doing, then surfaces them in a subtle way, without distracting or interrupting. You don't need to remember to ask, write a prompt, or do anything at all.
Is Marina an app? What is it?
Marina isn't exactly an app. There's no window, no chat sidebar, or anything like that. Instead it integrates across macOS in a number of places, and works across all apps. Its UI blends in with macOS. It's more like a new Mac feature than an app. But installing and uninstalling it is as easy as any other app.
How does Marina know what I want without being asked?
Marina looks at the screen and the data on your computer to understand your current activity, then either provide useful information, or suggest things it can do. It never takes action without your permission. This process is completely on device and works offline; your screen and data are never sent to a server without your approval.
How is Marina able to do all this on device?
We're ex-Apple engineers, pushing the limits of what Apple Silicon can do with AI. But it's not magic; AI on your laptop is much less capable than AI in the cloud. For complex tasks, Marina will use cloud AI instead, but it will always inform you before sending any data to the cloud.
What does Marina do with my data? Are you selling it, or training on it?
Your personal data never leaves your computer. Marina indexes your data locally with efficient on-device models. A small on-device AI retrieves and displays relevant information entirely offline. In some cases where stronger intelligence is needed, Marina can use server models in a fully anonymized way, never sending any personal data. In cases where you truly want the best intelligence and don't mind your data being shared, Marina can do that too, but it seeks your approval by default. We may collect anonymized traces, but these contain no personal data and can never be traced back to your computer.

How much will Marina cost?
Pricing details will be announced soon. We want to keep it accessible. Local AI will always be free and unlimited. Our cloud models will be priced fairly and generously based on usage.
Can I bring my own models or AI subscription?
We intend to support custom models and ChatGPT subscriptions at launch. More details soon!
Does it support Windows or Linux?
Not at launch, as our models are highly optimized for Apple Silicon and our experience is tightly integrated with macOS. If you really want this, let us know!
